Vacation Rental
Scams
A variation of a common scam has been attempted on vacation rental
homeowners. The homeowner is asked to accept a cashier's check for an amount above
the rental price, deposit it and return the extra amount. Your bank might accept
the check only to have it bounce in one or two weeks and you will be out whatever
money you have sent back.
Please remember,
NEVER AGREE to accept cashier's checks for amounts greater
than the cost of your rental with the understanding that you will return the balance.
Vacation Rental
Scam Alert!
Warning, never pay for a holiday
rental home on the Internet with anything but a credit card. Scam artists pretending
to be homeowners can fraudulently place properties on a web site. Use a credit
card that offers you protection against fraud.
